Just down the road from Briess…

New fermentation tanks at Three Sheeps Brewing Co. That’s me with Brian.

That’s David with two growlers of Lombardi Lager.

Paying a visit to Three Sheeps  and Titletown Brewing Companies is easy from my office at Briess. Three Sheeps is about 45 minutes east of Chilton in Sheboygan – better known as the Bratwurst Capital of the World. Then a short drive north takes me to Titletown Brewing in Green Bay – which of course is also known as Titletown U.S.A.

There’s a lot going on at these breweries these days. Three Sheeps owner and head brewer Grant Pauly had stepped out when I stopped to drop off a bag of malt (there’s definitely a benefit of living close to a malthouse), so Brewer Brian Sullivan showed me around.  Since my last visit, they added 6 new 30 barrel fermenters and as you can see, there is not a lot of room left after the new addition.  We had to get some Baaad Boy Black Wheat Beer before we left which I was able to enjoy at Bernadette’s home the following week…yes it was delicious!

At Titletown Brewing we sampled a one-off beer brewed by Brewer David Oldenburg….Lombardi Lager.  David worked with Vince Lomardi’s Grandson to develop a beer worthy of the Lombardi name, made of course with 100% local Briess Malt!  I have to tell you that this is one of the most delicious and interesting Lagers that I have had!  I don’t want to give away any of David’s secrets, but I think a particular specialty malt added to the complexity of this beer:)  Unfortunately the beer is gone and because it is a Lager, it may not return for some time.
