From Campgrounds to Craft Brews

Meet Me! Mercedes Hemmer, the new Marketing Assistant and Social Media Marketer for Briess.

Meet Me! Mercedes Hemmer, the new Marketing Assistant and Social Media Marketer for Briess.

My start in the craft brew industry is certainly an unusual one, but don’t most new adventures begin unexpectedly?  Over the last two years, you would have found me in foothills of the White Mountains of New Hampshire working as a General Manager and Marketing Manager at a destination campground and resort. It was long days working with guest, managing staff, and keeping the grounds and facilities in pristine condition. After a full day’s work, most nights would end by the campfire with the other managers and a craft brew in hand. If you would have told me then that I would be moving cross country to Chilton, Wisconsin to join the leading specialty malt and ingredients company, Briess, I would have never believed you. But here I am today, one month in, as the new Marketing Assistant and Social Media Marketer for Briess.

In the spring of 2015, some life events threw my cross-country journey into motion. While I had never work directly in the Brew Industry, I do have a growing interest in craft beer paired with a background in marketing and management. Since Briess goes beyond brewing and dips into the food and ingredients sector, it also fit my previous experience working at a market research and consulting firm that catered to the food and foodservice industry in Chicago, Illinois.

Since starting in mid-May, it has been a whirlwind of events and I have loved every minute of it. I have been working with a fabulous team of experts, whose knowledge in the brew industry is insurmountable, and I can’t wait to pick their brains for you.

Sneak-peak at Briess' state of the art, pristine malting facilities... stay tuned.

I can’t tell you how ecstatic I am to take you on sneak-peak tours of our malting facilities, meeting the Malt-Masters (lovingly known as “Maltsters”), share recipes you can only get from Briess technical experts, and bring you the latest news on what’s brewing at Briess.  I am also thrilled because we will be increasing our video library and you will have an opportunity to meet the people behind your favorite malts.

On a final note, I want to get to know you, our craft brewers and home brewers, so “friend” me on Facebook and share your brewing stories with me and Briess. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and I know you can’t wait for behind the scenes at Briess.

Stay tuned!

Mercedes
