Brewing for Habitat

We are really excited about our newest collaboration with six local breweries and our local Habitat for Humanity chapter, Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity. The breweries are each crafting a different style of beer from more than 4,000 pounds of malt donated by Briess Malt & Ingredients Co. The breweries are launching the beer Feb. 19-24, with $3 of every purchase going toward construction.

Our goal is to raise $36,000 to help build a home for a local family. Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2019. Here’s a look at participating breweries and the launch schedule:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 19, McFleshman’s Brewing Co., Appleton.
    • Brew House Dunkelweizen: A thirst-quenching classic dark wheat made with German Weizen yeast. The result is a balance of flavors ranging from toast to clove to banana.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 20, Lion’s Tail Brewing Co., Neenah.
    • Rock the Block Oak-Aged Bock: This traditional Bock pours a deep amber with a creamy off-white head. Lagered for a smooth, clean finish, it’s amazingly rich with big toasty malt flavors.
  • Thursday, Feb. 21, Stone Arch Brewpub, Appleton.
    • Cold-Steeped Milk Stout: Roasted and dark grains are steeped in room-temperature water overnight. Smooth and well-rounded with a sweet finish, and just enough hop character for balance. For this recipe they used 7 types of Briess malt and lactose.
  • Friday, Feb. 22, Barrel 41 Brewing Co., Neenah.
    • Built Berry Well Fruited Saison: A fresh and fruity beer, sure to be your first glimpse into warmer weather. Classic Saison qualities (pepper, lemon zest and a light crisp taste) with a blend of fresh fruit—raspberries and peach.
  • Saturday, Feb. 23, Fox River Brewing Co., Appleton.
    • Aframe Altbier: Well hopped and malty with brown/amber/red color. New Briess Dark Munich Malt 30L provides a toasted malty sweet flavor and aroma, as well as a rich amber color.
  • Sunday, Feb. 24, Appleton Beer Factory, Appleton.
    • Strong Foundations Strong Ale: A strong foundation of traditional Pale Malts and wheat, anchored with brown sugar and Belgian candy, gives this beer its amber color. Centennial and Willamette hops provide complexity and balance well with the malty backbone. Caramel, vanilla, and biscuit tone down this big beer with a smooth and approachable body. Enjoy on nitrogen for a velvety pour.

Special thanks to these brewers for making this project possible. The timing for pulling the project together couldn’t have been better. Briess was in the process of reaching out to the Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity to discover volunteer opportunities at the same time the brewers were discussing including Briess in this project!

The Briess family and our company president, Ryan O’Toole, are behind this project 100% of the way. Briess employees will be receiving coupons books to purchase a beer at each brewery. And Briess employees, collaborating breweries, and community members alike will be able to roll up their sleeves and build with the participating breweries later this year.

We hope everyone in the Appleton area takes time to visit these breweries during this fundraiser, which continues until the beer is gone.
